Join us for a one-off volunteering opportunity at Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre. A great way of meeting new people, developing skills, giving back to community and feeling good!
Find out more about The Williamson Tunnels here: http://www.williamsontunnels.co.uk/?page_id=57💙
This is a great oppurtunity to dig in and get your hands dirty! It involves removing soil from the 19th century tunnels using spades, pickaxes, buckets and wheelbarrows, retrieving buried artefacts and cleaning the finds ready for display. We recommend wearing old clothes, work or gardening gloves and sturdy footwear.
Individuals volunteering need to be sensible and physically fit enough to carry buckets of soil and move bricks and stone, dig using spades and pickaxes and move wheelbarrows full of excavated material.
There will be an introduction to the site and a Health and Safety briefing at the start, and volunteers will receive a guided tour at the end of the day!
We will be meeting at JMSU reception, Student Life Building, at 9am and will walk together to and from The Williamson Tunnels (L7 3EE). Make sure you bring warm clothing and suitable footwear. No previous experience necessary. You might also want to bring along a bottle of water and some snacks to keep you going.
